About Acne Cut

Acne Cut publishes plain-language information about acne and skin. Most acne content online exists to sell something; this does not. We explain what is actually happening in the skin, what the common ingredients do, and where the evidence is genuinely unclear.

This is not medical advice

We are writers and researchers. We are not dermatologists, doctors, nurses or pharmacists, we do not diagnose, and nothing here is a treatment recommendation for you specifically. Acne varies enormously between people, and what suits one person’s skin can irritate another’s. If your acne is painful, cystic, scarring, getting worse, or affecting how you feel day to day, please talk to a doctor or a dermatologist. That is a normal thing to do and it is what they are there for — going early is not an overreaction.

What we will not do

  • We will not recommend prescription medication, give doses, or suggest any way of obtaining prescription treatment without a doctor.
  • We will not promise results or put a timeline on clear skin. Nobody honest can.
  • We will not use before-and-after framing, and we do not publish photographs of people’s skin.
  • We will not invent statistics, studies or trial results. Where the evidence is mixed we say so rather than picking the tidier answer.
  • We will not imply that acne is caused by being unclean, lazy or eating badly. It is not, and that idea does real harm.

Who writes this

Articles are published by the Acne Cut Editorial Team. We read widely, prefer recognised dermatology and health bodies as sources, and try to be honest about uncertainty. We have no relationship with any brand, clinic or retailer, and no one pays to appear here.

Corrections

If we have got something wrong we would genuinely rather know. Use the contact form with the article and what is incorrect, and we will check it and amend the page.

How this site is funded

Acne Cut is supported by advertising. Advertising has no influence over what we cover or what we conclude, and advertisers do not see articles before publication. See our privacy policy for how advertising cookies work.

Medical disclaimer. Acne Cut publishes general information about skin and acne. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for speaking to a doctor or pharmacist about your own skin. We do not recommend prescription treatments or give doses. If your acne is painful, scarring, getting worse, or affecting how you feel day to day, please talk to a doctor — going early is not an overreaction.

About what you read here. Everything on Acne Cut is general information and our own editorial opinion. We research carefully and we say when the evidence is unclear, but we can be wrong, things change, and no article can know your particular situation. Please do your own research and make your own judgement rather than treating anything here as the final word. This is not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for speaking to a doctor or dermatologist about your own acne and skin. We are writers and researchers, not clinicians. We do not recommend prescription treatments or give doses. If something is painful, getting worse, or worrying you, please talk to a professional — going early is not an overreaction.
